Section 1: Responsibilities, Rights and rules

1.1 School:

  • Provide a learning profile for each student.
  • Set homework according to the school policy and make sure it is done and assessed.
  • Seek to achieve high standards of work and behaviour through building good relationships and developing a sense of responsibility.
  • Keep parents informed about general school matters and student progress.
  • Encourage students to achieve their full potential as valued members of the school community.
  • Make students’ health and safety the school’s top priority, including protection from bullying.
  • School personnel should serve as appropriate role models for students in accordance with the standards of the profession.
  • Handle any concerns or complaints parents may have on timely basis and with professionalism.

1.1.1 Responsibilities of Administrators:

  • Assume responsibility for school leadership.
  • Provide assistance to students in learning appropriate school behaviour and abiding by the school rules.
  • Facilitate the school behaviour management plan, train teachers, and respond to discipline problems according to school policies.
  • Encourage parent communication with the school through proper communication channels.
  • Provide responses to parental inquiries (i.e. attenance, discipline, grades, etc).
  • Supervise all affairs regarding school management, operations, and activities.
  • Serve as liaison between students, parents, teachers, and the school owner.

1.1.2 Responsibilities of Teachers: 

  • Perform teaching and extracurricular duties with appropriate preparation.
  • Teach to the standards of performance required by the school curriculum.
  • Use behaviour management techniques developed in the school behaviour management plan.
  • Promote good student discipline by modelling regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with school policies, rules and regulations, and directives.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Establish rapport and open lines of communication with parents, students, and other staff members.
  • Encourage students to strive towards excellence.
  • Participate in meaningful parent-teacher conferences.
  • Teach each student according to her/his abilities.

1.2 Parents/Care-Takers:

  • See that their child goes to school regularly, on time and properly equipped.
  • Make the school aware of any concerns or problems that might affect their child’s work or behaviour.
  • Support the school’s policies, guidelines and rules.
  • Support their child in homework and other opportunities for home learning.
  • Attend parents’ days and discuss their child’s progress.
  • Take note of communications from school and record important dates such as parents’ days and examinations.
  • Endeavour not to take their child on holiday during term time, particularly at times of examination.
  • Check the school website daily for updates.
  • Make every effort to provide for the physical and emotional needs of the student.
  • Keep informed of school policies and academic requirements of school programs.
  • Support their child in pertinent school-related activities.
  • Be sure their child is appropriately dressed; wearing the uniform, at school.
  • Discuss report cards and school assignments with their child.
  • Maintain up-to-date home, work, and emergency telephone numbers and other pertinent information at the school.
  • Assist their student in understanding their responsibilities as outlined in this handbook and submit a signed statement (form to be sent during the 1st week of school)
  • Promote high expectations for your student’s behaviour, school achievement, and homework.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication between home, school and teachers
  • Participate in school activities including parent-teacher conferences, events, camps etc.

1.3 Students:

  • Attend school regularly and on time; the same with lessons.
  • Wear the school uniform and be tidy in appearance.
  • Abide by the school’s behaviour code at all times.
  • Do all class work and homework as well as they can and meet the deadlines for completion.
  • Respect everyone at school; staff members, teachers and classmates.
  • Be polite and helpful to others.
  • Help to keep the school free from litter and graffiti.
  • Take home letters and bring back any reply slips promptly.
  • Ask their parents/care-takers to check the school website daily.
  • Be prepared for each class with appropriate materials and assignments;
  • Conduct themselves in a responsible manner.
  • Follow the Manarat el Maadi School rules.

1.4 Attendance

Attendance is an indicator of success in school and is necessary for maximum student learning. Following attendance requirements:

  • Increases the likelihood of student academic success
  • Increases daily student attendance
  • Encourages students to be academically current in classes
  • Develops student responsibility
  • Increases parental involvement in student attendance
  • Prepares students for attendance expectations in their future careers

All students are expected to be in class on time every school day .If a child is sick more than two days, a medical certificate is required . Students who do not meet proper attendance standards will be assigned consequences. School staff enforces daily attendance and initiate measures to correct attendance problems, which may include, but are not limited to any of the following.

  • Conference with student
  • Phone or letter contact with parent or guardian
  • Makeup requirements
  • Attendance contract

To ensure the safety of all students, parents are obligated to contact the school regarding each day or portion thereof that a child misses. Upon failure of contact by the parent/guardian, the school will make a reasonable attempt to contact them.


  • Students arriving to class after 8:00 am. , will be marked tardy.
  • Students arriving within the first lesson will be required to wait until the lesson ends before entering the classroom.
  • Students arriving after the first lesson will be sent home after contacting their parents.

Attendance and Absences:
Student absences will be marked according to two general categories: absent for a full day or missing more than 2 periods per day.

Attendance codes will be used as follows:

  • Unverified: no information regarding absence
  • Bereavement: student is absent because of a death in the family
  • Truant: student is absent without permission of parents or school officials
  • Parent call: student is absent as verified by parent phone call
  • In School Suspension: student is at school but working in an area other than the classroom
  • Medical excuse: student is absent as indicated by documentation from medical personnel
  • Verified: student is absent by school contacting parent or guardian

The School shall establish clear procedures to implement this policy, including. 

Attendance Awards:

At the end of each term, Manarat el Maadi issues attendance certificates in recognition of those students who have maintained regular exemplary attendance throughout the term.

Reporting Absences:

When your child is unable to attend please call the school office before 8:30 a.m., at the most, and let them know.

To ask for makeup homework, parents are kindly requested to contact the school reception before 12:00 pm.  to request the missed work .

The school will not be able to comply with requests received after 12:00.

Truancy occurs when a student intentionally removes himself/herself from school either before arriving or after having arrived at school, without previous knowledge and consent of parents or school officials. A written record of a student’s truancies shall be kept in the student’s cumulative record folder.

1.5 Uniform Guidelines
Wearing a uniform is a badge of pride, creates an identity for a school and is an important part of being a school student. Uniform shows that you are part of a community, wearing it says that we’re all in this together.
Accordingly, students must wear their Manarat el Maadi uniform on a daily basis

The school uniform is as follows:
There are two different sets of uniform; the first set is to be worn on a daily basis and the second to be worn on days where students have a PE class.

Set One:

  • Manarat Shirt
  • Manarat trousers
  • White socks
  • Black shoes
  • Manarat el Maadi jacket

Please note that students are not allowed to wear any article of the PE uniform on a day with no PE classes.


  • Hair accessories must be neutral in colour; white, black, brown beige or navy blue, and hair must be tied back, boys must have well groomed hair.
  • Face piercing or Tattoos are not allowed .
  • No accessories such as rings, necklaces and bracelets are allowed at school.
  • Girls are allowed to wear only stud earrings.
  • Girls are not allowed to wear makeup or put nail polish

Failure to comply with the uniform guidelines will result in the below consequences:

1.6 School Rules:
Following school rules actively prepares students for becoming active members of society, by abiding to laws and rules. Accordingly, it is imperative that you urge your child to follow all school rules.

Manarat el Maadi School Rules:

  1. We are kind and gentle.
  2. We keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
  3. We speak in English all the time.
  4. We listen to and follow directions.
  5. We respect ourselves and others.
  6. We don’t hurt others’ feelings.
  7. We don’t run in hallways.
  8. We don’t damage or spoil anything.
  9. We don’t cover up the truth; we are always honest.
  10. We enjoy school!

Break Time Rules:

  1. We are not allowed to go inside the building during Break Time. If we need to go to the bathroom, we take permission from a teacher, supervisor or P.E. coach.
  2. We always keep our Hands-Off; we don’t touch anyone.
  3. We do not throw rubbish on the floor.
  4. We play well together.
  5. We don’t spoil others’ games.
  6. We don’t damage or spoil anything.
  7. We always line-up when we hear the whistle.
  8. We follow directions and listen to our teachers.
